Tantive IV vs The Devastator

It’s been about 4 or 5 years since I’ve taken anything over 3 classes in one semester. Two of the latter years were because of work, I couldn’t handle that job plus a full load of classes, the other initial 2 or 3 years were because of the loss of my dad. I signed up for classes with the best intentions thinking that it was to make him proud, only to discontinue attending because I just couldn’t handle it, it had been too soon. If only I had realized this sooner…I wouldn’t have had such terrible grades for multiple semesters.

Now that I don’t have a job, and time has passed, I feel ready. I want to read every assigned textbook page I am supposed to before class, I want to complete every assignment with above average results, I want the teacher to leave those notes that make you feel good, like “great paper, keep it up”, “good job! I’ll discuss this paper with the class.” etc. I want to get an A in every class for the first time.

I signed up for 5 classes, a personal record. For a second, I thought it was foolish of me to have so many classes after taking so few at a time. However, success in school is really all I want now.

To people who know me well, I’m sure this sounds like just a bunch of talk. I’ve earned that reputation: “yeah, I’ll start a conversation with a random girl tonight”, “I’ll finish this book by Monday”, or “don’t worry, I’ll be there on time”. In this academic instance though, I’m not doing it because someone dared me, I’m not doing it because I want to prove someone wrong, I want to do it because I know I can (cliche much?). So that’s that, and this semester will be my finest. Who knows, perhaps I’ll take the One Ring to Mordor and cast it into the fire. Or destroy the Deathstar. Maybe I’ll even tell Victor Lazlo to fuck off on his plane and keep Ilsa in Casablanca all for myself :)
